Bill Murphy provides custom commercial real estate service throughout the state of New Hampshire (NH).
Personal Background:
Bill grew up in southern Maine. He holds a
Bachelors of Science and a Master of Business
Administration from Northeastern University. He
entered the corporate world as a financial trainee
and held many executive positions, the last one
with Nike. When Nike decided to close the New
Hampshire plants, having already experienced nine
corporate moves throughout his career, Bill
decided to enter the real estate profession.
Why do people commute?
Bill chose commercial and industrial real estate because of his experience. He knew that New Hampshire had a major natural resource that is generally unrecognized by the media and politicians alike -- Skilled Workforce. Yes, there are plenty of articles about how low the unemployment rate is in New Hampshire. But, there are no articles or speeches written about the hordes of skilled professionals who commute into other states, daily. Bill decided that he would begin the educating process and hoped that others would join him in reversing a trend that is unnatural -- commuting.
Man was not born to commute. He or she does not get up every morning and look fondly at commuting into Massachusetts, Maine or Vermont. Then, why do these people live in New Hampshire? One trip to the state, tells all: No personal income tax; No sales tax; Less crime; Better schools; and, a Friendly environment in which to raise their families.
Company decision makers should be made aware of this workforce and commuting phenomenon. It presents an opportunity that is not available in other parts of the country. How often does a company get a chance to give an employee a raise, simply by locating their company where the labor force lives? The answer is, "not often." This skilled labor force is commuting to a state where there is a personal income tax and though they do not live in Massachusetts, Maine or Vermont, they still pay an income tax to the state where the income is earned.
Surprisingly many national publications, such as Money Magazine, have reported that New Hampshire is one of the least taxed states. It is pointed out that while New Hampshire may have high real estate property taxes, if the wage earners work and live in New Hampshire, it is one of lowest per capita taxed states in the country.
