Standing erect in front of the Murphy & Murphy Real Estate headquarters is the classic "Murphy sign". It was designed and created by the well-known sign designer, Ready Signs. In 1988, when the company was born, Mr. Ready was given one simple instruction make it as non-plastic as possible. The Murphys had begun their career with a franchise real estate company, and when they elected to strike out on their own, they wanted to wash away the lack-of-individuality that sometimes comes with the franchise method of doing business, which they felt "plastic" symbolized. As this sign will attest, they were successful.
Murphy & Murphy Real Estate selected its Portsmouth Avenue location in Exeter because it provided excellent visibility to a huge level of local, repeat traffic. Working as a team, Bill and Dot Murphy had developed an enviable reputation at a nearby location, and determined that it would benefit them to prominently help former and new clients find them. A second office was added in 1997, sevring the Greater Manchester and Nashua real estate markets. The present mailing address is P.O. Box 95, Deerfield NH 03037.
The Murphys believe that to attract quality agents they needed to provide private settings desk space. In their previous experience, all agents were grouped in a "bullpen" arrangement, with many agents having to share desk space. This was far from what they wanted, and they have gone out of their way to do otherwise. In 1994, when it was obvious to the Murphys that the computer was the key to the next level, they determined that every agent should have their own personal computer within the private space provided. Furthermore, because the Internet is so important to the firm, each computer has a dedicated phone line devoted 100% to the computer. The company believes that a good agent will become a top-producer if the tools are available at all times. Waiting in line to research available inventory turns a good agent into an inefficient agent; whereby, with a private work space, individual computers, individual MLS hookups, individual phone lines, File Transfer Protocol (FTP), and graphic training, a "good" agent can become a "top" agent. Top agents are the kind of Realtors property owners and buyers want to work with. Following the record number of high-tech companies moving to and expanding within New Hampshire, personal computer usage in the state has been growing at an astronomical rate.
